The first step towards recycling your car is finding a junk yard that is interested in buying vehicles for used car parts. Not all junk yards will pay for old cars, and you might as well make some money out of the transaction.

This will help you to have about half of your job done before you have started on the real work. You can keep the door for extra auto parts or you can take it to the junk yard for a couple of extra bucks.

True: in this depressed economy, many people are liquidating assets. However, the average person takes anywhere from 3 to 5 years to pay off for their vehicle. Unless the seller had more than one, or the vehicle had very low mileage, or is a classic car, you might be looking at a 5-year car with many worn parts. However, if you know the owner, his/her driving and or car-care habits, that is a completely different matter.

Have the steering looked at by a professional when you start hearing funny noises. If you hear whining or moaning when turning the steering wheel, this is a sign your pump could be ready to go. Have your steering fluid changed according to manufacturer guidelines. And check your fluid level, since running out of fluid will destroy your pump pretty quick.

To avoid this I like to use a little copper slip on the threat of the spark plug which helps to not only aid in easy refitting but also gives a good earth contact to the plug itself. Well now it is simply screwing the new spark plugs in, taking care not to cross thread the plugs. Hint: screw in the new plugs by hand until you can’t turn them any longer, a torque of 20 – 25 Nm is fine or an extra half a turn when seated should suffice. If you don’t have a title for the vehicle, you will need one of the following documents to sell the automobile: an auction sales receipt, a mechanic’s lien, a salvage lot lien, or a repossession affidavit. A salvage lot can provide you with information on how to acquire these documents.

Meanwhile, you can still remove the old car by yourself. All you need is to drain all the fluids including the engine oil, brake oil, transmission oil and so on. You can also remove the spare tire and other valuable parts. You can then take the leftover to a good junk yard. You can also save your time and energy by calling the junk yard officials to pick the vehicle. You’ll get paid for the vehicle when the team arrives.

Priority #2: Proper maintenance on potential things that could leave you stranded or cause other components such as the engine to fail. This includes radiator hoses, fuel lines, constant velocity (CV) joints, clutch fan and timing belts.
